While many artists still slumber in a government-imposed hiatus, Felix And The Sunsets are travelling full-steam ahead with their third single of 2021, Leaving On The Next Train. A further bold departure from the diverse sounds of both 2021 singles so far, the track travels from a twisted travel-agents (“Get Lost, in a very weird world!”) in a monochrome late-capitalist society such as ours, where “people spend their whole lives, doing things they despise”, and as if by magic transports us through 60's and 70's inspired rock and roll and sheer determination; “I won’t waste life, no I can’t wait”, to the wider world of possibilities that await us beyond lockdown: “who knows where this railway line goes, like an ocean suppose, or where the coffee bean grows”.
Demonstrating a unique song-writing perspective and turn of phrase that perhaps owes something to such gloomy, eccentric British outliers as The Kinks and Bowie-circa-Hunky Dory, Felix And The Sunsets have again alchemised their considerable musical talents into an offering of unique Scottish rock. It says something of the band that even journeying in the troubling times of covid-19 and Brexit they manage to guide the listener through scenery foreign yet familiar, filled with piano, guitar solos, swinging drums and vocal harmonies, always managing to arrive at an outlook of eager excitement for the adventure that’s out there: “I can’t wait, I’m leaving on the next train, we can get away.” In times like these, a song that reminds us what it feels like to say “I still believe” and reassures us that on this journey “love is the way” is an apposite one indeed.
lyrics
Get lost,
In a very weird world,
She's a hell of girl,
Won't you give it a whirl.
Time flies,
Or so they theorise,
Yet people spend their whole lives,
Doing things they despise...
I don't think,
That's very wise,
Well I won't waste life...
I cant wait,
I'm leaving on the next train,
We can get away,
I can't wait,
I'm leaving on the next train,
Love is the way,
I cant wait,
I'm leaving on the next train,
We can get away,
I can't wait,
I'm leaving on the next train,
Love is the way...
Who knows,
Where this railway line goes,
Like an ocean suppose,
Or where the coffee bean grows.
Tickets please,
Someone who knows how to leave,
So like the Autumn leaves trees,
Let's enjoy this reprieve...
They say I'm,
Just so naive,
Well I still believe...
I cant wait,
I'm leaving on the next train,
We can get away,
I can't wait,
I'm leaving on the next train,
Love is the way,
I cant wait,
I'm leaving on the next train,
We can get away,
I can't wait,
I'm leaving on the next train,
Love is the way...
(Guitar solo)
I cant wait,
I'm leaving on the next train,
We can get away,
I can't wait,
I'm leaving on the next train,
Love is the way...
